Unilever has appointed Roxanne Barretto Iyer as Head of Global Marketing Services for North America, bringing a marketing leadership background spanning brand building, digital marketing, technology, and organizational transformation to the consumer goods company.

Iyer announced the move as a new chapter in her career, following experience across large global organizations, startups, transformation initiatives, and advisory work. She has previously held marketing leadership positions at L’Oréal, Ralph Lauren, and Estée Lauder, before moving into the startup ecosystem as COO of digital fashion platform SYKY.

In her new role, Iyer will work across Unilever’s North American marketing services organization, with a remit connecting areas such as creativity, media, technology, and consumer marketing. The role reflects the increasingly integrated nature of marketing operations, where brand activity, media execution, technology, and data are often managed as connected parts of the marketing function.

Her appointment comes as Unilever continues to develop its marketing operating model and expand the use of digital and AI-enabled capabilities. The company has been working on tools and initiatives designed to support content creation, marketing productivity, and AI governance across its brands.

North America represents an important market for Unilever, with the United States serving as its largest market. This places the regional marketing services function within a broad portfolio of consumer categories and brands, requiring coordination across different audiences, channels, and marketing capabilities.

Iyer’s career across established consumer companies, technology-led businesses, and transformation work brings experience from different operating environments into her new position. Her move also reflects the expanding remit of marketing leadership, where creative, media, technology, and organizational change increasingly intersect.

At Unilever, her focus will be on the North American marketing services function as the company continues adapting its marketing operations to changes in technology, consumer behavior, and the wider media landscape.
