TEGNA Appoints Tim Thomas to Lead Atlanta and Macon Television Stations

TEGNA has appointed Tim Thomas to lead WXIA, its NBC affiliate in Atlanta, sister station WATL, and WMAZ, its CBS affiliate in Macon, Georgia. The appointment brings an experienced broadcast and digital media executive into leadership of the three stations.
Thomas moves from his role as President and General Manager of TEGNA Florida, where he oversaw the company’s television operations in Tampa-St. Petersburg and Jacksonville. His responsibilities included audience growth, revenue, streaming, and operational performance across multiple markets.
He brings more than two decades of experience in broadcast, digital media, and station operations. Earlier in his career, Thomas served as President and General Manager of TEGNA’s West Texas stations, including KWES, KXVA, and KIDY. He also previously worked as station operations manager at WXIA-WATL in Atlanta, overseeing local programming and digital operations.

Thomas succeeds Kristie Gonzales, who has been appointed Vice President of Ad Sales for TEGNA’s Northeast and Southeast regions.
In his new role, Thomas will oversee station operations across platforms and focus on content, audience engagement, and advertiser outcomes. The move reflects the continuing convergence of traditional broadcasting, streaming, digital distribution, and advertising in local media markets.
For media companies, leadership across these channels increasingly requires balancing local journalism and programming with evolving audience habits and commercial priorities.
